Having completed the first of four Ear Training courses in college, I took lessons with Matt to strengthen my skills, reinforce specific concepts, and better prepare myself for advanced studies.
I didn’t have a formal background in music theory or aural skills, and these lessons were a major help and gave me more confidence in areas that were previously a struggle.
Matt teaches you to really think through your answers. He makes sure you understand the content and breaks things down in a step-by-step process for greater clarity.
There have been several moments when I realized the lessons were working. Some things that were a major struggle before are now clicking and I have a better understanding of the content.
I definitely have more confidence, and I’m less stressed out about being ready for the next level of Ear Training classes. The lessons have helped me improve and have made developing my skills a whole lot easier.
I highly recommend taking music lessons with Matt. He is great to work with and does his best to help you master the content. I have a greater confidence in my skills through my work with him.

When I started music lessons with Matt, I wanted to work on better control of my tone, playing high notes cleanly, improving scales, and developing good patterns for breathing.
Working on my own, I was not improving at all and didn’t know how to fix any of the challenges I was facing.
Matt has a clear way of explaining things and made me feel comfortable. He also knew how to help me improve my technique by finding what works best for me.
I was able to hear myself improving during my lessons and was then able to take everything Matt taught me and continue to practice it and improve beyond the lessons.
Being able to complete the goals I had in my lessons has made me feel confident I can continue to grow as a musician.
